In replacement of Caroline Tremblay who left for a few months to study in Europe, Marie-Laurence Primeau, a talented member of the group Flûte Alors! leads the Recorder for Fun group. She is also in charge of the new beginner's group Discover the Recorder that was formed in january 2008.

  Caroline Tremblay

Caroline Tremblay

Caroline Tremblay is born in 1980. She studied the recorder since she was 8 years old. From the age of 13 years old, she is member of the Quatuor Purcell, recorder quartet in her hometown. With this ensemble she plays in many different events, and record a charming Christmas album in 1997. At the age of 18, Caroline moves to Montréal to focus her studies on music and the performance practice of the recorder with Sophie Larivière. In 2000, she is a member of the ensemble Flûte Alors! who is giving many concerts in the Montréal area. Later this year, the group goes to Berlin, Germany for a musical exchange of masterclass and concerts organized by her teacher and Matthias Maute.

In 2005 Caroline receive a Bachelor Degree in performance of early music from the University of Montréal, where she studied the recorder with Francis Colpron. The same year, she reaches a first prize of the Canadian Music Competition, Toronto. Caroline plays now with professional baroque ensembles such as Les violons du Roy, Les Boréades de Montréal and has been involved as a musician in many special events of Le Cirque du Soleil. She is now about to finish a master degree in performance in which she did one semester at The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Danse, Israel, with Drora Bruck as recorder teacher. Caroline plays also the baroque traverso and the renaissance flute.

  Vincent Lauzer

Vincent Lauzer

Vincent Lauzer is a graduate of McGill University where he studies with Matthias Maute. A winner of several first prizes in regional and provincial competitions, he was awarded the Grand Prize in the 19 to 30 years old category during the National Finals of the Canada Music Competition in 2008 and 2009.
Recently, he won First Prize in the first Mathieu-Duguay early music competition held during the Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival. In 2009, he won First Prize and the Audience Appreciation Prize in the 3rd Montreal International Recorder Competition.
Vincent is a member of the recorder quintet Flûte Alors! with whom he performs regularly in the Montreal area, including performances at the Montreal Baroque Festival. Lately, he performed in the concert series Clavecin en concert and with the ensemble Les Idées Heureuses. He also works with The Kids and La Félicité.
Vincent teaches at the Cammac music camp, the Jocelyne Laberge music school and for the Montreal Recorder Society.

  Gilles Plante

Gilles Plante

After having obtained a Bachelor's Degree in literature and a Master's Degree in Medieval Studies, Gilles Plante was destined for a career in literature. However, the founding of the early music group Ensemble Claude-Gervaise, which he has led from the beginning, changed all that. He became a musician, specializing in early music and period instruments. He enjoys a double career as teacher-lecturer and as a performer with the Claude-Gervaise, Bretons & Cie and Danse Cadence ensembles.






Since September 2004 Gilles has led our Flûte en Suite group.

  Sophie Larivière

Sophie Larivière

is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Montreal where she obtained a Masters degree in ancient music interpretation. She has participated in master classes on several occasions in Europe and the United States where she was able to perfect her playing with flautists of international renown. She has been on several tours with the Ensemble Caprice and has participated in important recorder music events. She has also been the guest performer with several ancient music ensembles.

Besides her regular appearances in concert, Mrs. Larivière teaches at the Cégep St-Laurent in Montréal, the CAMMAC music camp, the San Francisco Early Music Society as well as in the Stuttgart region of Germany. She is also the musical advisor for the Montreal Recorder Society Flutissimo ensemble.

  Francis Colpron

Francis Colpron

A recipient of several awards and grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Dutch Government University Association, and the Quebec Government, Francis Colpron studied at the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands where he followed the teachings of prominent masters studying the recorder and the traverso.

In 1991, he founded his own ensemble, Les Boréades de Montréal, of which he is the artistic director.

Besides teaching at the Université de Montréal, he is a regular guest of prestigious summer camps such as Amherst in the United States as well as Cammac and Lanaudière.

Francis is a regular guest of the Sight-Reading activities.

  Femke Bergsma

Femke Bergsma

Femke Bergsma was born in the Netherlands. She studied recorder at the Utrecht Conservatory where she obtained her degree in 1988. She has been living in Quebec since 1989.

Upon arriving in Canada, she became an assistant to the renowned recorder maker Jean-Luc Boudreau, while working at the same time as both performer and teacher. She has played with such groups as les Violons du Roy, Le Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal, l'Ensemble Arion, les Boréades and Tafelmusik. She has also collaborated with the guitarist and guitar maker François Leclerc of the Stadaconé ensemble based in Quebec City. Together, they have developed two medieval and renaissance musical presentations for young people, as well as a program featuring the music of New France. Femke Bergsma has given numerous performances with this ensemble. She has often been heard on Radio-Canada broadcasts.

Recently, she has developed a keen interest in medieval music and has worked with, among others, the singer Angèle Trudeau. This activity has given her the opportunity to become proficient at playing the vièle à archet (a type of medieval fiddle).

  Matthias Maute

Matthias Maute

Mr. Maute’s compositions hold an important place in the world of contemporary recorder music and are frequently heard in concerts in Europe and North America. They have been published by Amadeus (Switzerland), Carus (Germany), Moeck (Germany), Mieroprint (Germany) and Ascolta (The Netherlands). Miserere, his double concerto for viola, cello and orchestra was premiered in Boston in 2002.


Known for his stunning blend of dazzling virtuosity and colorful expressivity, Matthias Maute is recognized as one of the foremost recorder players of his generation, and has earned an international reputation for his formidable talents as a traverso player as well as a composer.

After finishing his studies in Freiburg and Utrecht, Mr.Maute was awarded first prize in the prestigious Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges, Belgium. That same year his CD Les Barricades, which included some of his own works, was released. Four years later, he won the Dutch Impresariat Chamber Music Competition with Trio Passagio.

In addition to being a core member of REBEL, he is the Artistic Director of Ensemble Caprice, which includes his wife and duo partner, the recorder and traverso player Sophie Larivière.

He is also a professor at McGill University in Montreal.
